MARIETTA, OHIO — Holly Enyart is a persistent and determined Health Information Management Technology (HIMT) student at Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) who has already earned many certifications before even graduating. Having previously attended WSCO, Enyart is eager to earn her degree this time and hopes that she will serve as a role model to her children by proving that it’s never too late to get an education.
Enyart’s academic journey first started in 1997 when she attended WSCO after graduating from Belpre High School. Although Enyart initially took just a few general education courses before stepping away from college, WSCO has always held a special place in her heart. “I had always wanted to return to WSCO one day, as I loved the college,” says Enyart. Being an adult learner, this time around has also made Enyart appreciate WSCO even more. “One of the biggest things I enjoy about WSCO is the variety of ages you see in the student body. Attending WSCO as an adult learner is so comfortable because there are so many other students just like me,” says Enyart.
Enyart’s research into the program revealed a world of career opportunities that sparked her interest, especially since many of them offer the flexibility of remote work. As a parent of three children, this flexibility was important, as her previous job and school commitments had left her with very little family time. Although the program at WSCO is challenging, Enyart embraces the difficulty. “Challenges excite me. If it’s not challenging, then I’m not learning!” Enyart says. She takes pride in her unique approach to tackling obstacles, by always facing them head-on without hesitation. Enyart also values the certifications and opportunities that WSCO has provided before graduation, expressing gratitude for her instructors like Christina Manley. “I give a lot of credit to WSCO for helping me earn certificates and always guiding me to new ones,” Enyart says.
Christina Manley, HIMT-Program Director at WSCO, describes Enyart as “an online learner who truly maximizes every opportunity that comes her way and seeks out other opportunities as well.” Manley continues to explain all the certifications and other notable achievements Enyart has earned during her academic career so far. “Holly has been inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, is a member of the Ohio Health Information Management Association and American Health Information Management Association, has obtained her Certification Revenue Cycle Representative Certification, and is getting ready to sit for her medical coding exam,” says Manley. “Holly is also new to serving as a student on the Health Information Management Technology Advisory Committee as she loves to share ideas, give feedback, and exhibits having a high emotional and intelligence quotient,” says Manley.
Enyart hopes to inspire her children by going to college and earning her education, even if it is a little later in her life, “I hope to serve as a role model to my three children and prove to them that earning an education is attainable at any age.” Enyart continues by saying, “I tell my kids that if I can do this at my age, you absolutely can do it at yours!”
Enyart is set to graduate in the Spring of 2025 and says that her plans for the future are somewhat ever-changing since she is still learning about all the opportunities this degree holds. As for now, Enyart shares that she would like to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or Health Informatics. “I love WSCO and would absolutely continue here and earn my Bachelor’s degree if it was an option. Since it is not, I am currently looking into attending the University of Cincinnati,” says Enyart. As for her career plan as of now, Enyart hopes to one day enter the field of Population Health.
