MARIETTA, OHIO — Washington State College of Ohio (WSCO) announced that 12 corrections officers from area agencies recently completed the Ohio Corrections Officer Basic Training Academy, achieving a 100% pass rate on their certification requirements.
The Corrections Basic Academy consists of 148 hours of training in Full Service Jails, Jail Standards, Security Duties, Crisis Intervention, Community Diversity & Procedural Justice, Medical Overview, and Subject Control. The Ohio Bureau of Adult Detention oversees Ohio Jail Standards and requires newly hired corrections officers to complete the Corrections Basic Academy within their first year of employment at a correctional facility or jail.
The officers who completed the training represented correctional facilities from:
- Belmont County Sheriff’s Office: Jose Vazquez and Tyler Gray
- Monroe County Sheriff’s Office: Casey Ruckman and Jacob Keevert
- Washington County Sheriff’s Office: Amber Frost, Casey Simers, Morgan Casada, Jeremy Adams, Caleb Smith, Christen McCartney, Tacy Brown, and Jairon Stitt
Enrollment in the academy is restricted to individuals currently employed by an Ohio local correctional facility and working within a jail.
