Dear WSCO Foundation Friends,

As someone dedicated to the healing profession, my passion for helping others extends beyond the realm of medicine. So, when the governor asked me to serve on the Washington State College of Ohio Board of Trustees, it was an easy yes because I recognized that it would allow me to serve my community in a different capacity.

In my role as a physician, I often see the impact of poverty in our community, but it was startling to discover that more than half of Washington State’s students are living at or below the poverty level. Nevertheless, what is truly inspiring is that they recognize that education has the power to transform their circumstances.

As a newly appointed Trustee, I am quickly learning that many students must overcome challenges that extend beyond the confines of the classroom, but significantly influence their academic journey. Last year, the Foundation received 122 requests for emergency aid, many of which were simply to keep utilities from being disconnected. These students strive for academic excellence while struggling with the fundamental needs of their families: access to water, electricity, and a stable place to call home.

The unwavering dedication displayed by WSCO students in their pursuit of a better life is both amazing and inspiring. That is why I’m asking you to stand alongside me in supporting the WSCO Student Emergency Fund this Giving Tuesday. Together we can help students stay on the path to success.

Your contribution today can make a significant difference.
