MARIETTA— Washington State College of Ohio has named Dan Leffingwell as its new Dean of Engineering and Business. The former Noble County school superintendent brings 35 years of academic and administrative leadership experience to his new role.

“We are happy to have brought a strong visionary leader into our team who will take our engineering, business, cyber security, and auto diesel programs to the next level,” said WSCO President Dr. Vicky Wood. “Dan’s strengths are vision and execution, which he has capitalized on to produce strong results in previous roles, and I’m excited to see what he will do here at Washington State.” Wood further added that Leffingwell’s strong connections to business and industry, which extend across the state, will be beneficial as he leads the building of the future workforce. “I’m confident he will find innovative ways to connect our students with future employers while they’re going through our programs.”

Leffingwell’s experience is deeply rooted in education; he has served as a teacher, coach, and principal, ultimately working his way up to superintendent. In 2022, he was awarded the Ohio State Superintendent of the Year. Prior to joining Washington State, he was the Director of Innovation and Legislative Services for East Central Ohio Educational Service Center and the Director of the Appalachian STEM Collaborative.

“I am so appreciative of the opportunity that has been afforded me,” said Leffingwell. “I’m excited to join the Washington State team and look forward to working with so many in our collective work to improve life choices for those we serve. Washington State has served the community well for many years and is prepared to lead the inevitable change we will witness in our futures. I can’t wait to get started.”

Leffingwell holds a master’s degree in Educational Administration/Leadership from Ohio University and a bachelor’s degree in English from Marietta College.
